Abstract

126,059. Vickers, Ltd., and North, T. K. Nov. 22, 1916, Projectiles. - Relates to explosive or incendiary projectiles having a metal driving band connected thereto by screw-threads so that the action of the rifling of the gun holds it firmly in position. According to the invention, the screw-threads are formed on a 'base plug, such as B, Fig. 2, at the mouth of the charge-chamber, which plug is screwed in tightly after the projectile is charged to hold the driving-band C in position. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the band C is internally screw-threaded, and engages with the threads on the plug B. A modification. is described in which the base plug is itself made of copper or other metal suitable for a driving-band, and is of a larger diameter than that of the body of the projectile.
