Abstract

2615. Machenbach, R. Feb. 15, 1912 [Convention date]. Projectiles.-Relates to means for forming a gas check with the guide-rods used with grenades when fired from a gun of less calibre than that of the grenade or shell. According to the present invention, a bolt g, Fig. 1, fitted to the cartridge f is shot into a copper or like socket c at the rear of the guide-rod a to expand the socket so as to produce a gas-tight packing. The diameter of the bolt is greater than that of the recess in the socket. In a modification, the bolt g, Fig. 6, has packing-rings i of copper, the bolt itself forming the packing. The socket is screwed to the guide-rod, as shown in Fig. 1, or may be secured by a stud which is screwed both to the guide-rod and the socket, or a copper sleeve may be drawn over the guide-rod. Longitudinal passages h, or lateral passages are provided for escape of air.
