Abstract

5900. Sangster, C. T. B. April 20. Projectiles.-Relates to hand-grenades of the kind in which the bursting-charge container is secured within a heavy case having external thinning-grooves, and consists in (1) making the case by casting, so that the necessity of machining the grooves is avoided, and (2) making the sections b between the grooves of pyramidal or like centre-thickened formation. The grooved body a of the case is cast in cylindrical or barrel-like form with one end open, while the other is preferably closed by an integral base a<1>, which may also be grooved internally or externally. The charge-container can thus be secured in the case by pitch or the like without the use of screw collars or similar fastenings. The grooves in the body of the case may run longitudinally and transversely, spirally, or otherwise. Several patterns of grenade cases are described.
