Abstract
550,001. Ordnance projectiles. MOTLEY, L. July 16, 1941. No. 8984. [Class 9 (i)] An ordnance projectile for destroying aircraft comprises a casing built up of a number of longitudinally divided parts and packed with a nest of detached missiles which are spread when the parts of the casing separate at a given interval after projection. In the form shown, the casing 3 is in two separable portions held at the ends by caps 2, 1 and containing a large number of nested hexagonal section rods 5. To separate the parts after a given time interval, a time fuze ignites a small charge behind the nose cap 2 and the parts then spread under centrifugal force due to the spin of the projectile. The missiles may consist of balls or lengths of coiled wire to destroy aircraft.
