Abstract

475,596. Projectile fuzes. WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Aug. 4, 1936, Nos. 21498 and 21499. Convention dates, Aug. 3, 1935 and April 3, 1936. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to directaction percussion fuzes in which the firing-pin comprises two separate parts, one behind the other. According to the invention, the rear part 6 of the firing- pin is slidably mounted in a guide member 4 with its firing-point normally eccentrically disposed, and the guide member 4 is adapted under centrifugal force during flight to bring the firing-point in line with an axial detonator K. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the guide member 4 is mounted on transverse trunnions 4a in a cross slot in a member 1 rotatable about the axis of the fuze between ball bearings 2, 2. The part 6 of the firing-pin is formed with an enlarged head 6a against which bears the front part 7 of the firing- pin lying behind a closing disc M ; and the front part 7 is locked by a centrifugal bolt 8. On discharge, the bolt 8 releases the part 7, and after a safe period when acceleration is over, the member 1 rotates and the guide member 4 rocks while the front part 7 moves forward, the rear part 6 coming in line with the detonator K. In a modification, Fig. 4, the guide member 4 is rotatable about a transverse axis in a seat 10 in the fuze body and is normally locked by a centrifugal bolt 8.
