Abstract
551,654. Projectile fuzes. MEFINA SOC. ANON. June 17, 1941, No. 7651. Convention date, July 9, 1940. [Class 9 (i)] A projectile fuze of the type in which a striker is operable by impact or by a spring in the event of the target being missed so that the projectile is destroyed before reaching the ground, has a tubular pellet surrounding the striker and coacting with centrifugal members to lock the striker and pellet against firing movements. The striker 10 is surrounded by a tubular pellet 13 adapted to be thrust against centrifugally released stop members 11 by a spring 14. The pellet is provided with radial apertures in which are disposed round-ended loose members 15 coacting with an inclined surface 16 on the projectile body so that during initial rotation of the projectile as it leaves the gun, the pellet is raised against the action of its spring and the stop members 11 are released and fly outwardly by centrifugal force, so that the projectile is armed. If the target is struck the impact thrusts the striker forward to strike the detonator 18 but in the event of a miss, the rotation of the projectile falls and eventually the thrust of the spring 14 overcomes the centrifugal raising effect between the members 15 and the inclined surface, and the striker and pellet are actuated by the spring to fire the detonator. Specification 516,564. is referred to.
