Abstract

530,714. Projectile fuzes. DUNCAN, W. O. (Aktiebolaget Tolfvan Osakeyhtio). June 29, 1939, No. 18929. [Class 9 (i)] In a percussion fuze for bombs or shells, the firing-pin 4 is mounted for spring-release action in a cup 2a at the end of the impact firing-rod 2 so that firing takes place even if the firing-rod jams on violent impact. The release of the firing-pin 4 is controlled by a sleeve 7 which, together with the firing-rod 2, is initially retained in safety position by centrifugal bolts 1 released during flight. On impact, the sleeve 7 moves forwards by' inertia to release balls 6 retaining the pin 4 which then moves under the action of a spring 5 to fire the detonator 3. The sleeve 7 acts as a shield for the pin 4 to prevent premature firing.
