Abstract
508,912. Projectile fuzes. MEFINA SOC. ANON. June 27, 1938, No. 19016. Convention date, June 30, 1937. [Class 9 (i)] A clockwork safety mechanism for projectile fuzes comprises a movable member which prevents ignition of the explosive charge until a predetermined time after discharge of the projectile, and then after a further predetermined time interval again disarms the fuze. In the construction shown, a rotary disc 16 driven by the clockwork spring 12 is interposed between the firing pin 10 and the priming charge 11. The disc is provided with an arcuate slot 17, which is of such a length and so disposed that it is brought into alignment with the firing pin after the first predetermined time interval, and remains in alignment therewith, to allow the passage of the firing pin, during the second predetermined time interval. According to a modification, the disc 16 may be interposed between.the priming charge and the detonator. In the case of projectiles having axial spin, the shut-off member may be operated by centrifugal force, the slot in this case being straight.
