Abstract
785,742. Projectile fuzes. JUNGHANS AKT.-GES., GEB. Dec. 21, 1955 [Dec. 22, 1954], No. 36622/55. Class 9(1) A combined direct and delayed action fuze housed in a base 10 comprises superposed discs 11-18 housing the percussion elements. Plates 14,15 are slotted to receive a slide 20 housing a primer capsule 21 and blocking the path of a striker 19 extending through plates 11, 12, 13, except when a bore 20a is aligned with the striker, the slide being held by a spring 22. A manually rotatable member 24 has a cut-away end forming two abutments 24c, 24d either of which can be brought into alignment with an abutment 23 projecting from the slide. Abutment 24c is used to set the fuze for direct action, while abutment 24d aligned with the slide gives the delayed action setting the slide being free to move under centrifugal force to bring the primer 21 or bore 20a into alignment with the striker according to the setting. A safety latch 29 engaged in slide 20 prevents movement of a bearing 30 due to centrifugal force until the latch is deformed by the striker entering bore 20a. Bearing 30 controls a shaft 31 connected at its upper end (not shown) to a time-setting disc (not shown). The shaft 31 bears against a lever 32, Figs. 2 and 12, fixed on a shaft 33, which engages a latch 34 of time ignition means 35 in the disc 18. Flash passages are provided in plates 15-18 for transmitting the flash in the case of direct action. A lever 38 released after a given time by a wheel 39 holds the capsule slide at safe during transport, within the gun barrel and on the first part of the trajectory.
