Abstract
871,979. Hand grenades; fuzes. SUNDEN, K. H. July 7, 1959 [July 11, 1958], No. 23252/59. Class 9(1). A hand grenade is provided with a delay unit comprising a delay tube 12 and a detonator 11, which unit acts as a safety latch for a firing pin 17 and is movable by a spring 18 to free a slide 20, so that a spring 21 can move the slide until a primer 16 carried thereby is aligned with a pin 17 and a striker 41. The delay unit is held in the safe position by a mannually adjustable plate 23 with a central hole 24, which in one position allows the tube 12 to pass. The plate is engaged by a snap spring 26, which engages recesses therein corresponding to the safe and live positions. The unit is also held safe by a latch 28, pivoted on a shaft 27 in the frame and held by an outer lever 36 and tape 30, the latter being unwound by weights (not shown) fixed to its outer end. An additional safety means is a friction latch 33, held against the tube 12 by a percussion spring 34 which moves a cock 32 against a primer capsule 40 when the cock is released by the tape 30. When used exclusively as a percussion grenade, a latch blade is inserted in a recess 39 to disenage the friction latch 33 and prevent the cock 32 from firing the primer 40. For use as a time-release grenade, the plate 23 is set to prevent movement of the delay unit and no latch blade is inserted, and for use as a combined percussion and time-release grenade, the plate 23 is set to allow movement of the delay unit and no latch blade is inserted.
