Abstract
772,918. Projectile fuzes. MEFINA SOC. ANON. Aug. 8, 1955 [Nov. 5, 1954], No. 22740/55. Class 9 (1). Impact operated fuze provided with a self - destruction device and adapted to function with a short delay houses in the body C a detonator charge 1 initiated through a relay 2 by a percussion cap 3 lodged in a pivoted member 4. The member 4 pivoted eccentrically has a toothed portion gearing with a pinion 4c forming part of a release mechanism 4d, whereby the cap 3 is held out of alignment with the striker 5 and relay 2 until the projectile has been fired. The spring-stressed striker has a shoulder 5a with a conical surface bearing against the rounded end of a bolt 7 which is thrust outwardly by a stop 8b at the end of a slidable rod 8. On the rod is a shoulder 8a engaged by the selfdestruction device. This device comprises balls 11 within an axially movable body 10 stressed by a spring 12 and locked by members 9. After firing a projectile equipped with the fuze, when acceleration ceases, the members 9 locking the rod 8 moves outwards under centrifugal force, releasing the shoulder 8a, whereby on impact a pusher 13 moves the rod inwards so that the bolt 7 moves to free the striker which then moves towards the relay. Meantime, the member 4 has moved due to centrifugal force until the cap 3 is opposite the striker.
