Abstract
935,765. Projectile fuzes. GEB. JUNGHAUS A.G. Oct. 14, 1960 [Oct. 16, 1959], No. 35313/60. Class 9 (1). A time fuze for rotatable and non-rotatable projectiles has a safety device comprising a worm 107 rotatably mounted on a striker pin 15b, an inertia weight 109 into which is set a pin 108 (not shown), and a safety finger 114 rigidly mounted at its lower end in the weight 109. At the lower end of the worm 107 is a collar 107b which is partially cut-away as at 107d (see Fig. 5) and in the unarmed state of the projectile a pin 116 attached to a plate 117 is pushed against the collar 107b by means of a spring 118. During acceleration of the projectile the inertia weight 109 is caused to move rectilinearly rearwards being guided by posts 105 and 106 (not shown) and the pin 108 projecting into the groove 107a of the worm causes the latter to rotate. On arrival of the weight at cover-plate 102 the worm has rotated sufficiently to allow the pin 116 to move in the space left by the cut-away portion 107d, the plate 117 consequently moving anti-clockwise thereby freeing the passage between the striker pin 15b and a primer 20. The finger 114 on moving rearwardly, releases the balance member of the clockwork time fuze (see Specification 935,764) and the reduced portion 114a is clamped by a spring 115 when the weight reaches plate 102, thereby preventing return of the weight under the action of spring 119. The projectile is rendered safe during transportation since when dropped on its nose the striker pin, if driven back, meets the plate 117 and when dropped on its base movement of the striker pin is damped by spring 119<SP>1</SP> and the impulse is insufficient to cause a large movement of the inertia weight against the action of spring 119 and a delay mechanism formed by parts 110 to 113.
