931,449. Ammunition fuzes. H. JUNGHANS, and JUNGHANS A.G. GEB. Jan. 28, 1960 [Jan. 30, 1959], No. 3168/60. Class 9 (1). A mechanical impact fuze for unrifled rocket projectiles, in which a safety device consists of two inertia weights 21, 22 linked by a bellcrank lever 57 between them, pivoted at 56, is characterized in that the safety device and an escapement mechanism are arranged in a boxtype mounting frame and inserted into the fuze body 10 from the rear. The escapement mechanism (Fig. 3, not shown), operates as in Specification 858,516. The weights 22 and 21 are guided by a screw 24 in a slot 23 and an axiallyparallel pin (not shown) respectively. A primer carrier plug 59 is inserted from the rear into the fuze bore and serves as a rear abutment for a compression spring 58, applying a forward load to the mounting frame, and is itself held by an internally and externally-threaded annular nut 61 into which a detonator carrier plug 62 is screwed. In operation, as the projectile accelerates, the weight 22 is displaced rearwardly against the delaying action of the escapement and frees the bell-crank lever, thus allowing the weight 21 to be rearwardly displaced by inertia. The pin 41 then frees a detent spring 38 so that it engages a rear annular groove 39<SP>1</SP> on a safety-pin 36 and thereby recouples the pin to the weight 21 for forward movement. When the weight 21 is displaced forwardly again by a spring 55, after completion of the projectile acceleration, the rear end of the pin 36 is released from a pivoted member 30 which is sprung clear from the passage for a striker pin.
