Abstract

1,029,861. Ammunition fuzes. GEBRUDER JUNGHANS A.G. Jan. 8, 1964, No. 927/64. Heading F3A. A clockwork fuze for a projectile is provided with a torsion restoring spring 17, which extends from the clockwork mechanism 11 towards the base of the fuze. The fuze has a nose portion 12 covering the mechanism 11, which is housed in a recess 10a in the fuze body 10. By turning the portion 12 on the body 10, the fuze can be set to a required time. The balance wheel 14 of the clockwork is housed in a recess 13a in the bottom plate 13 of the mechanism 11, the forward end of the torsion spring 17 being fixed to the wheel arbor. A guide tube 18 surrounding the spring 17 provides its rear anchorage 19. On impact a striker pin 22 is depressed by a plunger 23 and fires an eccentrically housed primer 21. Flash from the primer 21 passes through bores 13b, 25a, 10d, 10c to a detonator (not shown). Premature ignition is prevented by a shutter 25 in which bore 25a occurs. In the safe position of the shutter, a nose 25b thereof engages a stop (26) to interrupt the flash passage. In a modification, the primer is housed in a slide, which is moved either by centrifugal force or by the clockwork to bring the primer into alignment with the firing-pin.
