Abstract

1299407 Projectile fuzes FORENADE FABRIKSVERK 30 April 1970 [19 May 1969] 20779/70 Heading F3A A fuze for setting hand grenades and mortar bombs for impact and/or delay action comprises a spring-loaded piston 7, Fig. 1, carrying a percussion cap 14a, and a spring-loaded hollow piston 13, Fig. 2, containing a delay charge 35, the piston 13 being movable only when the piston 7 is in an armed position, i.e., with the percussion cap 14a aligned with a striker 6. When the fuze is to be used, safety pins 7a and 15 are first removed, and the piston 7 is pushed inwards, either manually in the case of hand grenades, or by the pressure of the propellant gases in the case of mortar bombs. As the grenade or bomb is projected, a ball 9a sets back from a magnet 9 and drops into a recess 8b, whereupon a spring 19 pushes the piston 7 into its armed position against the delaying action of a vacuum behind the piston. A flange 13a, Fig. 2, of the piston 13 is thereby disengaged by the piston 7, and a spring 26 drives the piston 13 against a striker 12 to ignite the delay charge 35. The flash from a primer 36 subsequently ignites the percussion cap 14a. If impact of the grenade or bomb occurs before flash-over, a ball 5 attracted to a magnet 3 drives the striker 6 into the percussion cap. To set the fuze for delay only, the safety pin 15 is not removed and to set the fuze for impact only the piston 13 is locked in position.
