Abstract

1,166,497. Projectile fuzes. FRATELLI BORLETTI S.A. 20 Dec., 1966 [23 Dec., 1965], No. 57035/66. Heading F3A. Fuze for non-rotated projectiles which can be set for instantaneous or delayed action on impact, comprises a slide 15 in the form of a rack carrying instant and delayed action percussion caps 7 and 9; a plunger 18 which is secured by a safety wire 17, in a position where it retains the slide in a safety position; a spring 8 for driving the slide; and a retarding mechanism 6 for delaying the movement of the slide into one of two armed positions in which the instantaneous or delay action percussion cap is aligned with a striker 4. Which armed position is adopted, is determined by the angular position of a rotatable stop 22, which engages a shoulder 15<SP>1</SP> on the slide with its surface 22<SP>1</SP>. Following removal of the wire 17, a projectile fitted with the fuze is fired, and the striker sets back into a blind bore 13 in the slide, whilst the pin 18 sets back into a retracted position where it is locked by a ball 20. The striker holds the slide against the action of the spring 8 until a spring 4 overcomes the inertial forces and withdraws the striker from the bore 13. The slide is locked in the armed position by a spring-loaded plunger 14.
