Abstract

1,110,685. Projectile fuze. INDUSTRIAL HOLDING ESTABLISHMENT. 16 March, 1966 [18 March, 1965], No. 11608/66. Heading F3A. The percussion fuze has an instantaneous primer 30 and a delay-action primer 31 carried in a holder barrel 11. This barrel is rotatable from a safety position, Fig. 3, by a pin 28 carried by a rotatable hood 2, to bring one or other primer in line with the striker 9. By a cam on the hood 2, this setting simultaneously tensions a driving spring 39 for a movable rack 12 which holds an additional primer (41), Fig. 8 (not shown). The setting also releases detent balls 14, 15 from a rod 17 {which on firing sets back against a spring 21 and is locked by a catch 35. The rod disengages from a pivoted spring-biased retaining bolt 10 for the striker but this bolt is still held by a detent ball 27 backed by a pin 27. A gap 37 in the rod 17 has now released a balance bar 37 connected through an escapement and gearing, Figs. 6 & 7 (not shown), with the rack 12 which moves to release the pin 27 and thence bolt 10 and striker 9. The additional primer (41) moves to the centre and the fuze is fully armed. The chain of primers is completed by a relay primer 53 adjacent the detonator 54. Should the rack 12 be moved prematurely, e.g. by sabotage, a sprung pin 58 thereon enters a hole 61 in the hood 2 and the fuze cannot be set for firing. In a modification, Fig. 15 (not shown) pin 58 is replaced by a pin (62) fast with the rack 12, and additional holes (63, 64) are provided in the hood 2 corresponding to the instantaneous and delay settings, whereby the parts are immobilized in the armed position.
