Abstract

1,058,341. Ammunition fuzes. K. DIEHL. March 19, 1965 [March 26, 1964; Aug. 7, 1964], No. 11670/65. Heading F3A. A percussion fuze for a projectile having a projecting striker 3 slidably displaceable in the fuze body 2 to actuate a firing pin is provided with safety means to prevent movement of the striker by an accidental impact against foliage, camouflage, hailstones &c. The safety means comprises a collar 10 on a sleeve surrounding the firing pin 12, which collar, on impact against a target, is sheared off by the hardened edge 16 of the striker 3. The body 2, striker 3 and sleeve 9, 10 may be made of copper, brass or a light metal and the striker may be surface hardened or provided with a lining of steel. A resilient plug 14 is interposed between the pin 12 and the striker. Alternatively the shear collar may surround the striker and abut the end surface of the fuze body. This end surface is upset to engage a groove in the striker.
