Abstract
944,165. Ammunition fuzes. GEB. JUNGHANS A.G. Feb. 17, 1960 [Feb. 17, 1959], No. 9185/63. Divided out of 944,164. Heading F3A. A percussion fuze for unrotated projectiles in which an inertia sleeve 114 is coupled with a thrust sleeve 115 which arms a rocker plate 141 of the primer carrier is made safe against premature arming by a lever 134 having a rear arm bearing against the sleeve 115 and a front arm 137 bearing against the sleeve 114 when in the safety position, sleeve 114 having a milled flat 138 against which arm 137 can bear when the lever 134 is rocked by the rear end of sleeve 114. Also the sleeve 115 is provided with a groove 138b into which the rear arm 136 of the lever can swing. As in Specification 944,164 a finger 123 extends rearwardly from the sleeve 115 to immobilize the plate 141 and an escapement pallet 125 until positive acceleration of the projectile has ended. When the projectile fitted with the fuze is fired, an inertia pin 120, on which is an adjustable weight 121, sets back against its spring 122 and before reaching its rearmost position rocks a safety lever 129, Fig. 2, thus releasing the inertia sleeve 114. Sleeve 114 then slides into sleeve 115, and a spring 119 moving into the groove 118 of sleeve 114 couples the two sleeves together. When acceleration ceases a spring 116 moves the two sleeves forwardly withdrawing the finger 123 from the plate 141 and the escapement pallet 125. A torsion spring 145 then swings the primer 146 to the armed position in line with the striker 113, so that if impact occurs the striker pin is driven against the primer. If the fuze is dropped on its nose during transport, the pin 120 and the sleeve 114 remain in the safe position. The sleeve 115 could move forwardly and so withdraw the safety finger 123, but for the presence of lever 134 of which arm 136 extends into the path of sleeve 115, the lever 134 only being rocked aside by rearward movement of sleeve 114.
