Abstract

711,928. Ammunition projectiles; fuzes. ANSTALT FUR DIE ENTWICKLUNG VON ERFINDUNGEN UND GEWERBLICHEN ANWENDUNGEN ENERGA. March 24, 1952 [April 24, 1951], No. 7563/52. Addition to 620,875. Class 9(1) A projectile fuze as described in the parent Specification having an obturator operated by a thrust member has a valve attached to the thrust member to close the flash passage until the obturator is completely released. A grenade 2 containing a hollow charge 6 is provided with a safety device 1 interposed between the nose fuze 3 and a detonator 4. Surrounding the detonator is a booster charge 5 which initiates the hollow charge, the cavity of the charge 6 being provided with a liner 7. The safety device has 'a casing 1a housing a hollow obturator member 9 provided with two projections 10 engaging zig-zag grooves 11 in a support 12. An ejection spring 13 holding the projections 10 in the blind parts of the grooves 11 is attached at one end to a nipple 15 fixed in the obturator and at the other end to a plug 16 seated in the support 12. The outer surface of the obturator 9 has grooves 18 forming a baffle for the ignition gases. On firing the grenade, the obturator 9 sets back due to inertia, the projections 10 moving along the blind part of the groove 11 thus compressing the spring 13. When acceleration ceases, the spring pushes the member 9 forwards. The projections 10 move along the open branches of the grooves until the member 9 leaves the housing 1a thus removing the plug 16 from its seating and freeing the flash passage to the detonator. The obturator 9 with its attached spring falls into the cavity 8 and lodges near the primer 14 attached to the nose fuze 3.
