Abstract

577,941. Projectile fuzes. MIDGLEY, A. H., and ASHWORTH, D. R. Sept. 27, 1941, No. 12554. [Class 9 (i)] The striker e of an impact fuze for projectiles, bombs and the like is normally restrained from movement within a casing d<1> by means of a star or cruciform sheetmetal member f attached to the striker and adapted to rest upon the upper inturned edge d<2> of the casing. On impact, the member f is deformed and drawn through the opening at the upper end of the casing by the inertia of the striker which descends upon the cap in the casing c. The striker is restrained from movement in the reverse direction by a shoulder on it engaging the inturned edge d<2> on the casing d<1> which encloses the striker and the cap. The striker point e<1> may be formed, by a prolongation of the screw g by which the member f is attached to the striker e.
