Abstract
618,495. Ammunition projectile fuzes. LINDMAN, E. I. April 21, 1942, No. 16072/43. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1940. Divided out of 618,494. [Class 9 (i)] The firing pin 10 is slidably mounted in a plug 14 which screws into a tube 2 extending through the bomb, and carries a striking plate 11 which, on impact with the ground, drives the pin on to a primer 19. The firing pin is held away from the primer by a spring 16 and by a safety device comprising a resilient clip of sheet metal having two parts 21, 22, interengaged at 23. The clip embraces the firing pin 10 or the plug 14, and its open ends are held together by a safety pin 13a through which passes a safety wire 25. The pin 13a passes loosely through holes in the clip. When the bomb is hung up in the aeroplane by means of an eye 20, the wire 25 is secured to the aeroplane. When the bomb is dropped, the wire pulls out of the pin 13a and the parts 21, 22 of the clip spring apart and fall away, the bomb being thus armed. By rotating the clip around the firing pin and rotating the pin 13a the wire 25 may lie wholly in a straight line and thus pull out easily.
