Abstract

573,889. Hand grenades. KULA, W., and BAKANOWSKI, Z. DE L. Dec. 24, 1943, No. 21616. Addition to 551,999. [Class 9 (i)] The practice grenade claimed in the parent Specification is modified by providing an interiorly-shouldered nut 18, which houses a cartridge 19 and is screwed into the orifice 17 in the bomb casing 10. The nut has an open bore and the base of the cartridge is closed by a cardboard wad 195 which is blown out on firing to allow the egress of smoke. The percussion cap 193 has a small orifice 194 normally sealed by a combustible material, which burns on ignition of the fuze 192, to allow smoke from the fuze to pass to holes 122 and thence to atmosphere by way of holes 102, 103. The cartridge may be formed with an extending neck, housing the percussion cap.
