Abstract

657,714. Tracer projectiles. ATKIEBOLAGET BOFORS. Jan. 31, 1949, No. 2610. [Class 9 (i)] The tracer composition of a tracer projectile is located in a cavity in the form of an annular groove 1 either in the bottom of the projectile or in a disc fastened thereto. The composition shown is connected to a central hole 4 by a radial priming charge 2, the hole being closed by a cover 6, and the two charges being protected by a coat 5 of paint or varnish. In use, the powder gases of the gun disrupt the cover 6 and ignite the surface 3 of the charge 2. Thereafter the tracer charge and the paint burn in both directions around the annular groove. If desired, a fireproof stop may be fitted in the groove so that the composition burns in one direction only.
