Abstract
924,954. Tracer projectiles and tracer compositions therefor; priming compositions. BOFORS A.B. March 13, 1961 [April 14, 1960], No. 9062/61. Classes 9 (1) and 9 (2). A projectile tracer comprises a number of tracer compositions 5, 6, 7, 8 arranged one after the other in the direction of combustion propagation, each successive composition burning with increased light intensity. As shown, the tracer compositions preferably have conical boundary surfaces. A black powder primary charge 3 and a further primary charge 4, which burns without emitting light, comprising 59% barium peroxide, 36% stannic oxide and 5% chlorinated rubber are provided. The tracer compositions 5, 6, 7, 8 used are as follows: 5 contains 35% priming composition 4, and 65% tracer composition comprising 64.7% strontium nitrate, 8.8% strontium chloride, 11.8% magnesium, 8.8% p.v.c. and 5.9% chlorinated rubber; 6 contains composition 5 without any priming charge; 7 contains 64.7 strontium nitrate, 5.9% strontium chloride, 17.6% magnesium, 5.9% p.v.c. and 5.9% chlorinated rubber; 8 contains 58.8% strontium nitrate, 29.4% magnesium, 5.9% p.v.c. and 5.9% chlorinated rubber. It is stated that this arrangement provides a steadily increasing light intensity during flight such that the firer observes an approximately constant brilliance.
