940,479. Pyrotechnic and like devices; projectiles. GOTEX A. B. Nov. 22, 1960 [Nov. 25, 1959], No. 40114/60. Heading F3A. A container 1 having end caps 4, 5 houses a rocket device comprising an outer casing 19, propellant 18, tail fins 25, an inner casing 20 to house the pay-load 21, for example, an illuminating composition, and a parachute 27 placed between the casings 19, 20. At the base of the container 1 is a plate 6 which supports a guide socket 7 for a striker pin 8. The latter is retained rearwardly against the action of spring 12 and on being released, by rotating cap 2 which causes a spring lever 9 to be withdrawn from a diametral bore 11, moves upwardly to detonate a primer 13 in nozzle 14 of the rocket. Consequent ignition of the propellant 18 clears the nozzle and forces the rocket out of the container 1, cap 3 having been removed beforehand. A delay fuze material 18<SP>1</SP> is ignited as the burning of propellant 18 terminates and this in turn ignites the illuminating composition 21, the combustion gases from which are sufficient to eject the casing 20 and the parachute 27 together with its suspension cords 29 and damping device 30 from the rocket casing 19. The damping device 30 comprises two back-toback plane spiral springs, their outer coils being connected together and their inner coils being connected respectively to a plug 32 and to the suspension cords 29. The rocket is stabilized in flight by the fins 25, which open out on leaving the container 1.
