Abstract
1341530 Rockets ETAT FRANCAIS 11 July 1972 [19 July 1971] 32288/72 Heading F3A A military or meteorological rocket comprises an explosive charge 13 which is retracted into the body 1 of the rocket when a block 10 of propellant has been consumed. Detonation of the explosive charge by a fuze 17 thereby fragments the whole rocket. A head 5 containing the explosive charge is formed with a valve member 7 which is urged against a seat 6 by the pressure of gas trapped in the body 1 prior to firing. A removable pin 15 locks the head in position. When the rocket is launched, the pressure of propellant gases continue to urge the valve member against its seat until overcome by the force of a spring 9 and the air pressure acting on a cap 14. A latch 16 locks the head in its retracted position and also serves to arm the fuze 17. The block of propellant is glued to the valve member 7 and is supported by a spring 11. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the explosive charge is carried by a sleeve which slides externally over the body of the rocket.
