Abstract
1278021 Projectiles DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 3 Feb 1970 [4 Feb 1969] 5203/70 Heading F3A A projectile comprises a body 1, Fig. 3, formed with a passage 4, 4a, 4b, 4c through which propellant gases pass to discard a cover 2, the portion 4a of the passage being smaller in cross-section than the portion 4 so as to act as a. nozzle for the propellant gases. The passage rearwards of the portion 4 may be of stepped cross-section (as shown) or of gradually varying cross-section. A destructible cover 9 encloses a firing charge 16 for a tracer 15. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the body 1 contains a number of symmetrically disposed tracers 19 and pyrotechnic flash or smoke signals 12. The rims of percussion caps 13 serve as spin-braking means during flight. The portion 4b has a diameter equal to 1% of the calibre of the projectile. In another embodiment, Fig. 5 anadditional body portion 21 is screwed on to the body 1 and carries a number of spin-braking blades 20 and signal charges ignitable by impact fuzes 12. A tracer 15 is carried by the body 1.
