Abstract

997,713. Mortar projectiles. I. VON THYSSEN-BORNEMISZA. June 28, 1962 [June 28, 1961], No. 24809/62. Heading F3A. A mortar projectile comprises a steel body 1 and a finbearing tail tube 7 of light alloy, the latter being screwed directly on to a projection 5 and shaped at its forward end to continue rearwardly the aerodynamic form of the body whose rear end diameter is 25% to 40% larger than the diameter of the main part of the tail tube. The tube 7 is adapted to contain a propellant charge which is held in place by a plug 10 which also houses a fuze and percussion cap. Gascheck ribs 3 are provided on the body 1.
