Abstract

924,062. Ammunition. ANSTALT FUR DIE ENTWICKLUNG VON ERFINDUNGEN UND GEWERBLICHEN ANWENDUNGEN ENERGA. Aug. 8, 1961 [Oct. 25, 1960], No. 28645/61. Class 9 (1). A hollow charge projectile 1 for rifled guns having a tubular tail 2 on which fins 3 are fixed, the rear part of the projectile being housed in a cartridge case 4, is provided with a metal ring 9 of diameter equal to the calibre of the projectile, the ring being rigidly mounted on the fins and having a leading edge shaped to force open the crimping 7 at the mouth of the case as the projectile is propelled into the barrel of the gun. The case 4 is preferably of brass or aluminium alloy and fitted with an ignition cap 5 for the propellant, which is enclosed in bags 6 placed between the fins. Notches 11 in the ring engage with the fins and so prevent rotation of the ring, while lugs 12 on the fins prevent its forward displacement. The case is crimped into a groove immediately behind a driving band 8.
