Abstract
1,143,436. Practice projectiles. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 26 May, 1966 [29 May, 1965], No. 23760/66. Heading F3A. A practice ammunition projectile intended for firing by a propellant charge positioned to the rear of the projectile is formed with an unfilled axial bore through which, on firing, some of the propellant gases can escape, the bore being provided at its rearward end with a readily destructible covering. The projectile may also be provided at the forward end with a readily destructible covering, e.g. of injection-moulded plastics, to supplement the external shape of the projectile to the shape of a projectile of live ammunition. The rearward covering may comprise a cardboard disc, metal or plastics foil or an injection-moulded plastics component which is force fitted in the bore or secured in a recess by a pin-like attachment force fitted in the bore. The wall of the bore may be roughened, e.g. with lamella-like ribs or with a screw-thread with a pitch opposite to the spin which will be imparted to the projectile on firing. The internal cross-sectional area of the bore is one-third the cross-sectional area of the calibre.
