Abstract

A flare or illuminating charge 7 connected to a parachute 10 is ejected from the body B of a projectile, at a point along its trajectory, by a charge 21 which is ignited following ignition of a propellant charge 23, the gases from which escape through a lateral nozzle 25 and tilt the projectile about its centre of gravity to prevent ensnarement of the parachute with the body of the projectile once it has been ejected therefrom. The charge 21 is ignited, through a delay charge 20, by a charge 16 ignited, through a delay aperture 18, by the flash from a charge 2 in a time fuze 1. The charge 23 is ignited, through a delay aperture 22, by a charge 17 ignited, through a delay aperture 19, by the charge 16. An ejectable plug (not shown) closes the nozzle 25. The flare or illuminating charge 7 is ignited, after ignition of the ejection charge 21, by a delay charge 8 communicating with the charge 2. Shear pins 5 hold the charge 7 in the body of the projectile. Juxta-posed half shell 11, 11a and a pot 12 enclose the parachute.
