Abstract

404,519. Cables ; cable joints. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP HOLLANDSCHE DRAAD-EN KABELFABRIEK, 10, Hamerstraat, Amsterdam. April 28, 1933, No. 12451. Convention date, April 29, 1932. [Classes 36 and 38 (i).] In electric cables, junction boxes, terminal boxes, &c., in which the insulation is subjected to pressure by fluid forced into the cable the insulation is separated from the pressure-fluid by a layer of rubber, which may be rendered conductive by the addition of carbon &c. Fig. 1 shows a cable with a hollow conducting core 2 surrounded by a layer 3 of conducting rubber, the pressure material being forced into the core. Outside the layer 3 are the insulation 4 a lead sheath 5 and the armouring 6 ; if the insulation 4 consists of rubber the sheath 5 may be made of conducting rubber. Similar arrangements may be combined in multicore cables. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement in which the pressure fluid is outside the insulation. The cores 2, conducting rubber 3 and insulation 4, are surrounded by a layer of rubber 12, which is made conducting if the insulation 4 is of rubber also. The cores are wrapped in a metal sheath 10 which is earthed, and the whole is enclosed in a rubber sheath 13 and armouring 14. The pressure fluid is introduced into the spaces between the conductors.
