Abstract
1379294 Cable moisture barrier CABLES DE LYON-ALSACIENNE-GEOFFROY DELORE 11 Aug 1972 [13 Aug 1971] 37663/72 Heading H1A A process for the manufacture of a fluid-tight barrier for an electric cable consists in filling the interstices of the cable with a pulverulent product of grain size of 100-150 microns which swells on contact with water, thus forming a fluid-tight plug if the outer sheath is punctured, the product being sprayed on at the same time as the core of the cable is laid up, and being electrostatically attracted by the conductors of the core, which are connected to earth, while the pulverulent product is fed from an insulated tank, at high voltage. To prevent disturbance of the homogeneous layer of pulverulent during tests which involve subjecting the cable to high gas pressure, crepe paper is disposed into the cable interstices between the conductors. The invention is applicable to coaxial pair homogeneous telecommunication cables.
