Abstract
1301993 Cable terminations SIEMENS AG 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970] 24767/71 Heading H2E A coaxial cable 2 is terminated by a mould member 10 comprising a central elastomeric insulating portion 12, a tapering metallic inner portion 11 and a cap portion 13, with an insulating elastomeric filling compound 17 mixed with an adhesive being east within the mould and around the cable insulation 4. The inner portion 11 is rigid and preferably longitudinally divided to accommodate an earth connection 19 to the cable screen 5 and is sealed to the cable sheathing 6 by means of adhesive tape. The central portion 12 may consist of a synthetic rubber e.g. a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and a diene monomer whose elasticity allows radial expansion of the cable insulation 4 and insulating compound 17 in the event of thermal expansion. The cap portion 13 may be of the same material as the central portion or of a weakly conductive material and is seated on the central portion 12 and a connector 20; it may incorporate expansion bellows to permit longitudinal thermal movement of the cable insulation 4. The mould is filled by cold casting the insulating compound 17 therein, which compound may consist of a mixture of castor oil and polyisocyanic acid esters cross-linked after casting. Drip shields 21 may be either integral with or separately mounted on the central portion 12 and on the cap portion 13.
