Abstract
646,672. Screened cables. COMPAGNIE GENERAL D'ELECTRICITE. Oct. 26, 1948, No. 27796. Convention date, Dec. 10, 1947. [Class 36] [Also in Group XXXIX] In a composite telecommunication cable comprising a plurality of screened coaxial pairs 10, surrounded by at least one layer of conductors 14, the high permeability screens 11 are electrically connected at intervals to the lead sheath 15 of the cable or metal strips arranged within the cable, to reduce the cross-talk between the coaxial pairs. The coaxial pairs may be stranded together with quads 12 and surrounded by insulation 13 and peripheral quads 14 within the sheath 15. 'Connection between the screens 11 may be made by conductors 17, and between the screens and the sheath by conductor 16. The connections may be made at the junctions between the cable lengths, provided that the distance between connections is short compared with the longest wavelength transmitted by the coaxial pairs.
