Abstract

924,110. Cables. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. Oct. 25, 1961 [Oct. 28, 1960], No. 38195/61. Class 36. An electric cable comprises two pairs of cylindrical conductors arranged coaxially, the ratio of the diameters of the two conductors of the internal pair being between 1.9 and 2.10 and that of the two conductors of the external pair being between 1.4 and 1.6. As shown, a submarine communication cable comprises supporting steel strands 3 around an insulated conductor 1 carrying power to repeaters. Conductors 4, 6 and 8, 10 comprise copper or aluminium strips folded longitudinally to form the two coaxial pairs separated by insulations 5 and 9 respectively, 11 being an insulating sheath. An anti-cross-talk screen comprises two steel tapes 7 and 7a (Fig. 2, not shown) wound helically either in the same or opposite directions with or without a gap between turns. The conductors 6 and 8 may be formed by coating the inside of screening tape 7 and the outside of tape 7a (Fig. 2, not shown). The second screening tape 7a (Fig. 2, not shown) may be omitted and the single tape 7 coated on each face with copper or aluminium.
