Abstract

640,430. Communication cables. TELEGRAPH CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE CO., Ltd. May 7, 1948, No. 12658. [Class 36] A coaxial core C for use in a communication cable comprises a central conductor 1, a layer of soiid insulation 2, a conductive tape 3 applied longitudinally with overlapping edges, a helically applied conductive tape 4 and an outer thermoplastic waterproof sheath 5, which may be a helically applied tape. A plurality of such cores C may be laid up with a number of twin or quad cores T, each of which comprises individually insulated wires 7 embedded in insulation 8, the assembled cable being enclosed in a jute bedding 9, steel armouring tapes 10 and an outer jute serving 11. The insulating material used is polythene, or another thermoplastic material having similar electrical and water-resistant properties. According to the Provisional Specification polyisobutylene may be used for the tape 5.
