Abstract
829,189. Cables. TELEGRAPH CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE CO. Ltd. Sept. 14, 1956 [Sept. 19, 1955], No. 26765/55. Class 36. In a coaxial communication cable, of the type having a coaxial tube consisting of a core A spaced from a single tubular conductor C and having additional conductors laid up with the tube to provide control circuits, the additional conductors comprise flat pairs of plastic insulated wires 1 and 2 laid around the tube with a long lay in equidistant parallel relationship. The spaces between pairs may be filled with threads 4 and 5 or tapes of polythene or other dielectric material and if the cable is screened, e.g. by a short lay aluminium tape 7, bare metal wires 3 may also be laid in these spaces in contact with the coaxial tube and the screen to form screening pockets 4 to reduce the screen resistance. These wires may be of high tensile strength to enable the cable to be used as a self-supporting overhead line. The flat pairs may be transposed at splices to effect cross-talk balancing. A sheath D of p.v.c. or polythene may be provided.
