838,494. Cables. RITCHIE, J., and WHITEPARSONS, G. D. July 23,1956 [July 21, 1955], No. 21172/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 36. An overhead line conductor comprises at least one conductive wire or tube associated with a card or rope of non-metallic inorganic fibres, such as glass fibres, coated or impregnated with synthetic resin, and arranged to take most of the tension to which the conductor is subjected. Wires may be stranded around a glass-fibre core, or stranded together and several such stranded conductors laid up around a rope core, and such arrangements may be combined to form larger cables. Alternatively non-metallic cords may be laid up around a stranded conductor to protect it against the atmosphere. Insular conductors may each have a core comprising a bundle of parallel fibres consolidated with resin, and several such tubes may be laid up around a central core.
