809,868. Conductors. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. July 24, 1957 [July 24, 1956], No. 22902/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 36. A conductor comprises a sheath of high conductivity metal such as aluminium or an aluminium alloy extruded directly or indirectly over a core comprising a thermosetting or coldsetting resin reinforced with substantially parallel glass fibres distributed throughout the crosssection of the core. The core, which may be reinforced with high tensile metal wires, may comprise a solid cylindrical body, a number of parallel rods, a seamless tube or a tube built up from a number of interlocking or segmental rods. The sheath may be anchored to the core by extruding it whilst the core is in a reactive condition, so that the heat from the extruded metal cures the resin, or by making the surface of the core irregular so that the sheath is keyed thereto. Additional layers, for example of highly conductive wires or of asbestos may be interposed between the core and the sheath.
