Abstract

565,222. Universal joints. THOMPSON PRODUCTS, Inc. March 22, 1943, No. 4666. Convention date, Feb. 5, 1942. [Class 80 (ii)] A universal joint has a hollow member 10 having a cylindrical bore 16a receiving a ball member 11b on a shaft end 11a and cylindrical bores 17a, 18a receiving rollers mounted on a cross-pin 20 fixed to the ball member 11b. The member 10 is rockingly carried by cylindrical bearing faces 40, 41 in an outer housing 14 fixed to the other shaft end 12. Rubber 42 or like vibration absorbing medium, preferably under compression, is arranged between the inner and outer members 10, 14. A spring 36 acts between the housing 14 and the ball member 11b. The housing 14 has an easilydetachable cover 28 with a flexible dust shield 35 and contains lubricant, preferably in powder form.
