Abstract
567,990. Universal joints. JOHNSON, C. M. May 21, 1943, No. 8109. Convention date, March 26, 1942. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A combined universal joint and ball bearing comprises shafts ends 1, 2, having forks 3 ... 6 pivoted to a block 9 by pins 10, 11, the outer faces of the forks being spherical and being accommodated in the spherical bore of an inner ball bearing ring 12. The outer ring 14 of the bearing has projections 15 secured to a stationary support. The ring 12 has notches 18 to facilitate assembly of the forks, and a notch 16 for the assembly of the pins 10, 11. The balls 13 of the bearing are assembled through grooves 17, Fig. 2 (not shown). Rubber bellows 19 secured to the ring 14 and to the shaft ends seal the joint.
