Abstract

816,873. Bearings. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Oct. 27, 1955 [Oct. 28, 1954], No. 31228/54. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXV] A trunnion bearing comprises a flanged bearing member having a part-spherical internal surface and a collar, adapted to be mounted on a shaft member, having a part-spherical external surface, the collar being formed of more than two equal part-annular pieces or two or more unequal part-annular pieces which together form a complete annulus, the circumferential ends of at least one of the pieces meeting the other piece or adjacent pieces in joints which in assembly in the bearing member can be made by rotation of the piece or pieces about a radius of the spherical surfaces to bring the ends into register. The invention is applied to an engine mounting trunnion of a gas-turbine engine. The Provisional Specification describes also a trunnion bearing comprising a flanged bearing-member 10, Fig. 1, having a part-spherical internal surface 16, and a collar 14, having a partspherical outer surface, formed of two parts 14a, 14b which are split on a diametral plane and are mounted within the member 10 by rotating them about an axis perpendicular to the bearing axis.
