Abstract
560,613. Fastenings. CONSTANT SPEED AIRSCREWS, Ltd., and MARSHALL, F. G. Nov. 21, 1942, No. 16495. [Class 44] [Also in Group XXXIII] In an airscrew in which the spinner is attached to the hub by the interengagement of male elements on one part with female elements on the other part, these elements are formed as integral portions of the respective parts. The elements may be circular in crosssection, of cylindrical or tapering form, and they may be pressed out in a single operation in which their clearance is controlled by using a lubricant of predetermined viscosity. In the form shown in Fig. 1, supporting plates 15, 20 rigidly secured to flanges 16, 21 on the front and rear ends of the hub are formed with hollow spigots 13, 19 to engage sockets 12, 18 formed in attachment flanges 11, 17 extending inwardly from the spinner 10. For securing the spinner axially, nipples 22, Fig. 4, are secured to the rear flange 17 between the sockets 18. These nipples have dished heads 24 and extend through openings 23 in the plate 20 and through key-hole slots in an arcuately movable locking ring 26 which may exert axially a resilient tightening force. The locking ring is retained in the locked position by a resilient finger 28, Fig. 3, secured to the plate 20 and bearing on the locking plate between two pressed-up bosses 29. To facilitate the entry of the spigots 19 into the sockets. 18, a thimble 30 may be secured to the plate 20 to extend forwardly through one of the spigots. Specifications 451,553, 485,903, [both in Group XXXIII], and 548,910 are referred to in the Provisional Specification.
