Abstract
557,120. Airscrew spinners. CONSTANT SPEED AIRSCREWS, Ltd., MARSHALL, F. G., PAUL, P., and BURTON, P. July 1, 1942, No. 9067. [Class 114] A spinner is secured to the front and/or rear of the hub of an airscrew by fastening devices which automatically move into and out of their locking position when the spinner is moved axially onto and off the hub. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the spinner 5 carries a number of spring-pressed pivoted catches 2 to co-operate with openings 9 in the back plate 8 of the hub, the catches being connected by rods or cables 11 with a spring-pressed nose-cap 12 for releasing purposes. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the free edge 21 of an annular plate 22 on the spinner 5 has one or more annular ribs or grooves 23 to snap into one or more similar grooves or ribs 24 in the free edge 25 of a flanged plate 26 on the hub. The flange of plate 26 is slit axially to form tongues 29 which carry weights 28 for holding the ribs and grooves in engagement by centrifugal force. The spinner may be angularly located and driven by means of pins and sockets 17, 19, Fig. 1, or 30, 31, Fig. 2.
