Abstract
546,622. Screw propellers. FAIRHURST, L. G., and ROTOL AIRSCREWS, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1940, No. 17901. [Class 114] In a co-axial airscrew installation, the hub of the rear airscrew is secured to a flange on the front end of the outer shaft and is rotatable about the inner shaft, the arrangement enabling the hubs of the two airscrews to be made of the same size and, if desired, to be interchangeable. In the installation shown in the Figure, the hub 5 of each airscrew is provided with an attached sleeve 8 formed with a flange 12 and splines 13, the flange of the rear sleeve being secured to a flange 4 on the front end of the outer shaft 2, and the splines of the front sleeve being engaged with splines on the inner shaft 1. If it is not required to interchange the airscrews, the flange 12 and splines 13 may be omitted from the front and rear sleeves respectively. The rear sleeve is retained by rings 15, 16, 17 and a threaded sleeve 18
