Abstract

545,736. Screw propellers. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd., GILMORE, K. B., and BROWN, G. H. F. Jan. 23,1941, No. 938. [Class 114] An airscrew spinner 5 having slots 22 for the blade - shanks 8 is reinforced at the inboard edge by means of displaceable or detachable strips 16 extending across the slots. In the preferred construction, box-section strips 16 are telescopically mounted in boxes 17 secured to the spinner, and when the strips have been moved across the slots they are secured by means of bolts 19 passing through ferrules 18 in the strips. The spinner is preferably mounted on an intermediate plate 12 carried by the barrel-bolts 11 of the hub 7. Another mounting- plate may also be employed. As supplied to tandem airscrews, the spinner may consist of two parts mounted on separate plates.
