Abstract

544,425. Airscrews. CONSTANT SPEED AIRSCREWS, Ltd., and MARSHALL, F. G. Dec. 4, 1940, No. 1733. [Class 114] Spinners or nose-caps are secured to the hubs of airscrews by adopting existing features on the hub, such as bolts for connecting two halves of the hub together or the screw studs that secure the spinner support to a hub flange, to form one set of elements of a series of readily separable connections of the pin and hole or socket type. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 5 the bolts c connecting the hub halves a, b are extended axially to form pins d adapted to coact with sockets e which are mounted on the front spinner support f, preferably through the intermediary of rubber mountings y. The heads n of the pins d are provided with grooves m which, after the pins have been passed through the enlarged parts of bayonetlike slots o, in a locking-ring k and the locking-ring has been circumferentially displaced, are simultaneously engaged and locked in the narrower parts of the slots o, the necessary displacement of the locking-ring being effected by means of a pivoted lever p. In a modification, Fig. 4, the pins d<SP>1</SP> provided with the grooves m are formed as integral portions of screw studs i which serve to attach the front spinner support f to a flange h on the hub. In either construction, where the mounting of a spinner is concerned, co-operating pins and sockets may be arranged as required on a back hub-plate w and on an annular flange x secured to the spinner, either the pins or the sockets being supported in rubber mountings.
