Abstract

566,427. Airscrew &c. spinners. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd., GOURLAY, G. K. L., and GAMBLE, F. W. July 20, 1943, No. 11818. [Class 114] [Also in Group XXVI] A spinner 10 is secured to the hub 12 of an airscrew, marine propeller, or fan, by means of transversely extending sector-shaped plates 28, 30 located in the spaces between the blade shanks 32 and secured at their inner and outer edges to the hub and spinner respectively. In the form shown, each blade shank 32 is sur. rounded by a frame 16 which is internally circular and externally rectangular, these frames being held firmly in position by means of plate connecting links 24. The sectorshaped plates 28, 30 are externally flanged at 29, 31 so as to be riveted or otherwise permanently secured to the spinner 10, their radial margins are riveted to flanged plates 34 and their inner edges are connected by plates 35, so as to form box-like structures between the blade-shanks 32. Interengaging dowels and sockets, and externally accessible locking devices, for detachably securing the whole spinner assembly to the hub, are illustrated and described in detail in the Specification. The sector-shaped plates 28, 30 may be formed with lightening holes 71. In the case of new propellers, the frames 16 may be replaced by flanges or the like provided initially on the limb.
